Welcome to the Department of Neurosurgery at Saint Louis University. The department is devoted to the advancement of neurosurgical care, research, and education. Pioneering work and innovations on neurosurgical technologies and neurosurgical operative techniques have been a hallmark of this department. The SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is equipped with some of the most advanced technologies (including intraoperative MRI, and MEG technologies) in order to provide the highest level of care for our patients.

Patients will find personalized care provided by multidisciplinary teams dedicated to specific neurosurgical diseases in this world-class neurosurgical department.

Fourth Annual Combined Ventricular and Skull Base Endoscopy Course for Neurosurgeons

The Department of Neurosurgery hosted its fourth annual Combined Ventricular and Skull Base Endoscopy Hands-on Cadaveric Course for Neurosurgeons, directed by Samer Elbabaa, M.D., Reinert Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neurosurgery and Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery. The course welcomed 58 faculty and participant neurosurgeons representing 25 countries and 6 continents.

Saint Louis University Chosen to Host the 2019 World Congress of Neuroendoscopy

International Federation of Neuroendoscopy (IFNE)For the first time since the establishment of the International Federation of Neuroendoscopy (IFNE) in 2001, its IX World Congress will be held in the United States at Saint Louis University.

Late last year, Samer Elbabaa, M.D., Reinert Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neurosurgery and associate professor of neurosurgery at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, presented a convincing argument to the IFNE to capture the bid to host the three and a half day meeting in November 2019. Pitted against strong applications from prominent international cities such as Moscow and Singapore, Elbabaa highlighted the merits of the city's attractions as well as the world class facilities the Saint Louis University School of Medicine has to offer. St. Louis is a departure from the luxurious exotic resorts where the meeting has traditionally been held; past and future locations of the meeting include Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Kobe, Japan; Naples, Italy; and Cape Town, South Africa. And now St. Louis has joined the list.

Dr. Abdulrauf presented lectures at the Neurosurgery 101 in Porto, Portugal on February 19, 2016 hosted by the Portugal Chapter of the Walter E Dandy Neurosurgical Society.

Dr. Elbabaa was invited as a Visiting Professor at the Department of Neurosurgery at Miguel Hernandez University and Alicante University Hospital in Alicante, Spain on January 27-28, 2016. He lectured on "Fetal in-utero Microneurosurgery for Myelomeningocele - Saint Louis University Experience." The Grand Rounds lecture was well attended by local and regional faculty, residents and medical students.

Dr. Abdulrauf is presenting lectures at the Europe Operative Techniques Symposium and the EC-IC Bypass Hands-on workshop with the Neurosurgical 101 Course for Students on September 17-24 in Opole, Poland and Katowice, Poland.
