Anthropology, Minor

Saint Louis University’s minor in anthropology allows you to explore race and ethnicity, inequality, American Indian studies, environmental anthropology, contemporary urbanism, health, archeology, primate social behavior and forensic anthropology. It also provides a background in basic anthropological theory and social science methodology.

The minor in anthropology complements a variety of other majors at SLU and is available at our main campus and our campus in Saint Louis University-Madrid.

All ANTH designated courses will count as electives for the anthropology minor.  Only one SOC course will be accepted.

Students must complete a minimum total of 18 credits for the minor.

Continuation Standards

Students with a minor in anthropology must maintain a 2.00 GPA in courses for the anthropology minor. Students who fall below a 2.00 average in minor-related courses will be placed on probation. If the student fails to obtain at least a 2.00 average GPA in minor-related courses after two consecutive semesters on probation the student will not be allowed to continue in the program.

Anthropology is a discipline that approaches human questions by analyzing cultural and social perspectives relating to the past and the present. It provides students with methodological and analytical skills and offers a focus on diversity and global issues, all of which are central to succeeding in the 21st-century economy. The minor can be combined with a wide range of majors on offer in SLU-Madrid.

Curriculum Overview

The minor in anthropology requires 18 credit hours.
