Studio Art, Minor
Saint Louis University offers a studio art minor to students studying on our main campus and at Saint Louis University-Madrid.
The minor includes Foundational Experience in Drawing and 2D Design, plus a course in a three-dimensional medium: 3D Design, Ceramics I, Sculpture I or Fibers and Textiles. Studio art minors are also required to take an art history course, choosing from various cultural and historical topics. These four courses allow students to gain skills in observational drawing and visual organization in two and three dimensions and an understanding of aesthetics, theory and context for art-making.
Students must complete a minimum total of 21 credits for the minor.

A student must maintain a GPA in coursework for the minor in studio art of at least 2.00.
Learn how to see and think like a visual artist. SLU-Madrid offers courses in drawing, design, painting, color theory and sculpture that help students to explore their natural creativity.
The studio art program provides students with a learning experience that fosters art-making in the context of the liberal arts. Involvement in the studio enhances natural development as an artist as students explore their abilities and learn about the world. Connections across disciplines and cultural differences help students to gain a conceptual and intellectual framework for their art. Students leave with a portfolio of work and an appreciation of the development of their own values and creative skills, as well as an understanding of the processes, expressions and values of others.
