Water defines the region that Saint Louis University inhabits, sitting at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, making SLU's WATER Institute the perfect host of the annual Summit for Water.
This annual event attracts experts from a variety of disciplines and sectors to collaborate on water-related issues that impact communities from St. Louis and the Midwest, to the entire world. This includes professors and students in academic disciplines such as biology, earth science, and engineering, as well as leaders in water-related industries, government and nonprofit agencies, and community leaders or activists.
Activities include keynote speakers, research presentations and discussions on the most pressing issues related to water that impact our communities, citizens and ecosystems.
The institute, or the Water Access, Technology, Environment and Resources (WATER) Institute is the first of its kind in the American Midwest. Inspired by the University’s Jesuit identity, the mission of the WATER Institute is to advance water innovation to serve humanity. The organization is housed within SLU's Research Institute, part of the University's Big Ideas initiative to support some of the most significant inquiries presented by researchers.
