Through Saint Louis University's institutional membership, all faculty, postdoctoral
scholars, and graduate students have access to the NCFDD (formerly: National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity). 
The NCFDD is an independent organization providing career development and mentoring resources for academics at all career stages. The institutional membership also allows SLU to host NCFDD workshops on campus twice per year. Below is information on what is available through the institutional membership, what kinds of topics are addressed in NCFDD programming, and what you need to do to access NCFDD resources.
What is available through the NCFDD?
SLU's NCFDD institutional membership provides access to a variety of virtual offerings, including:
- Weekly Monday Motivator emails
- Core Curriculum webinars that address ten key skills successful academics need to cultivate
- A Dissertation Success Curriculum that supports doctoral student success
- Regular webinars and multi-week courses facilitated by guest experts and NCFDD facilitators
- A mini-series, The Hidden Handbook, that provides tips for academic success
- Regular 14-Day Writing Challenges
- Monthly accountability Buddy matching with other NCFDD members
- Private Discussion Forums for peer-mentoring and problem solving
- Access to the NCFDD Member Library, which includes workshop materials, referrals, and readings
Additionally, SLU's institutional membership supports a limited number of other opportunities for faculty to learn from the NCFDD, through the Faculty Success Program and through regular Campus Workshops led by NCFDD facilitators.
What kinds of things will I learn?
The NCFDD helps academics at all career stages and across all disciplines to develop more productive and effective approaches to their work. Commonly addressed topics include: developing a sustainable writing routine, setting and achieving appropriate professional goals, learning more effective time management and prioritization strategies, increasing scholarly productivity, and forming effective mentoring relationships.
Dr. Kira Hudson Banks, associate professor of psychology at SLU, had this to say about
her experience:
NCFDD changed the way I approach my work. It helped me strategize and plan in ways
that were never explicitly taught before. The mix of self-reflection and practical
advice is great, and the accountability that the programs bring is invaluable. Engaging
in the programs is definitely worth the investment of time.
Dr. Bukky Gbadegesin, Associate Professor, Art History, described her experience as
follows:
The Faculty Success Program encouraged me to think intentionally about my life, research
and career plans, equipped me with a range of helpful tools, and gave me access to
a supportive scholarly community through accountability groups, webinars, and related
workshops.
How do I access NCFDD offerings?
The first step in accessing NCFDD resources and programs is to create an account using your SLU email address. You can do this by completing these five steps:
- Go to https://www.ncfdd.org/join.
- Choose Saint Louis University from the drop-down menu.
- Select Activate my Membership.
- Complete the registration form using your @slu.edu email address.
- Check your SLU email. Find the NCFDD confirmation/welcome email, and click Activate Account in the email.
