Public Health, M.P.H. and Social Work, M.S.W. Dual Degree

Saint Louis University's Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) and Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) is a dual-degree program from SLU's School of Social Work and the College for Public Health and Social Justice.

This integrated program requires completion of both the M.S.W. and M.P.H. degree requirements.

Concentrations are part of each program, including clinical and community and organization concentrations within the M.S.W. and a public health practice concentration within the M.P.H.

Saint Louis University’s applied behavior analysis program is currently a Verified Course Sequence (VCS). Students who graduate from the Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis program will have completed all requirements necessary to sit for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®) exam.

Admission Requirements

Students must meet the admission requirements and be admitted into both degree programs according to the processes of each of the participating academic units in order to pursue a dual degree program.

Individuals may apply to the M.P.H. degree program concurrently with application to the School of Social Work or following their admission to the School of Social Work; however, admission to the dual degree program is contingent upon admission to both the M.P.H. and the M.S.W. degree programs.

Fall Admissions 

  • February 1- Priority deadline for any student wishing to be considered for merit-based scholarships, graduate assistantships and fellowship opportunities.   
  • June 1- Final deadline for any international candidates wishing to begin their coursework in the fall of that year  
  • August 1- Final deadline for any domestic student wishing to begin their coursework in the fall of that year 

Program Requirements

MSW Concentration Practicum I and Seminar will satisfy the MPH Practice Experience CEPH core requirement if approved by the MPH practice experience advisor. The MPH Practice Experience requires 240 total minimum hours.

M.S.W. concentration practicum and concentration seminar satisfy M.P.H. practice experience. Students must coordinate with both their M.S.W. Field Liaison and M.P.H Academic Advisor.

Continuation Standards

Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 in all graduate/professional courses.

Students must earn a B/S or better in all Practica and Generalist M.S.W. courses to pass the courses and matriculate. Students must earn a grade of C or better in all other M.S.W. courses.

Students must earn a B- or better in all required M.P.H. courses. Elective M.P.H. courses may be passed with a C or better. 

This roadmap is just one example of a semester-by-semester plan of study for this program. There are other plans students can and do take. The plan of study for each particular student is established in consultation with each student’s academic advisor; this roadmap does not replace academic advising appointments.
