In Saint Louis University's Chaifetz School of Business M.S. in finance program, you won’t simply study finance; you will develop the ability to think critically, make sound decisions, and lead others in a world shaped by advanced analytics, evolving technologies and human insight. The program reflects an intentional approach to integrating technology in ways that enhance learning and support your personal and professional growth.

In SLU's Master of Science in Finance, you will explore how algorithms and alternative data are reshaping financial markets, while learning from faculty who bring together rigorous research, technological expertise, and real-world experience to address complex financial challenges. Through a foundation in human-centered leadership, you will strengthen your judgment, empathy and sense of purpose in decision-making. The program also connects you to a powerful professional network spanning investment firms, fintech and corporate finance, with graduates building careers at organizations such as Edward Jones, Stifel, Morgan Stanley, Boeing, NISA and RGA. Coursework includes investment theory and practice, financial modeling, machine learning applications, algorithmic trading, and fintech analytics, along with electives in areas such as real estate, financial planning, and blockchain. Together, these experiences accelerate the formation of your capabilities, perspective, and confidence, preparing you to lead with clarity and purpose across the evolving landscape of finance.

Admission Requirements

The Chaifetz School uses a holistic admissions approach to carefully evaluate all applicants, taking into account every aspect of their application. While an undergraduate degree is required for admission, a business background is not.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis once all application materials are received. Application files are reviewed holistically and the average time for admissions decisions in two weeks.

International Student Requirements

All Saint Louis University admission policies and requirements for domestic students apply to international students. International students applying to SLU must also meet the following additional requirements:

  • Demonstrate English language proficiency
  • Academic records must include an English translation. Unofficial copies may be accepted in some cases for initial admission review, however official copies must be received prior to enrollment. Course-by-course transcript evaluations are accepted and are required in some cases.

Students must submit financial documents to be issued an I-20 for their F-1 visa application. Proof of financial support must include:

  • A letter of financial support from the person(s) or sponsoring agency funding the student's time at Saint Louis University
  • A letter from the sponsor's bank verifying that the funds are available and will be so for the duration of the student's study at the University

Prior to the start of the program

The Finance M.S. requires students to have an understanding of principles in accounting and economics. Students without sufficient undergraduate background in these topics should take ACCT 5010 Accounting for Managers (3 cr) and ECON 5010 Economics for Managers (3 cr) prior to  the start of the M.S. program. This requirement may be waived for students having related academic coursework or relevant work experience, subject to the approval of the program director or the department chair. If the student needs to take ACCT 5010 Accounting for Managers (3 cr) and/or ECON 5010 Economics for Managers (3 cr), these courses will not count towards the 30 credits required for the M.S.

FIN 6000 Finance for Managers (3 cr) may be waived, subject to the approval of the program director or the department chair, for students who either have completed their undergraduate studies with a major in finance from an accredited institution, or have significant full-time work experience in finance or a closely related role, or have successfully passed at least the first exam of notable finance professional certifications such as CFA. If this course is waived, students will choose an additional elective so total M.S. credits equal 30.

Continuation Standards

Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 in all graduate/professional courses.
